SHOULDER JOINT DISPLACEMENT

SHOULDER JOINT DISPLACEMENT

It is a forward or backward dislocation of the shoulder joint after a fall or trauma and is very painful. Muscle and cartilage tears may occur after dislocation. Recurrent dislocations may require the patient to undergo surgery.

Şikayet
At the time of dislocation, the patient experiences unbearable pain. The shape of the shoulder joint is distorted and a distinct dislocation appears. Shoulder dislocations require urgent intervention. In order to relieve the pain and nourish the head of the shoulder, the patient must immediately apply to the emergency room and the dislocated shoulder must be repositioned. Patients presenting with a history of old dislocation have a fear of recurrence rather than pain. Apart from pain, patients consciously restrict their shoulder movements.
Muayene
The patient presenting with a dislocated shoulder has significant pain and limitation of movement. A drooping shoulder, called the epaulette symptom, is seen on the shoulder. There may be findings related to other problems that have occurred in the dislocated ground. For example, if there is a tear in the shoulder muscles, there is an examination finding of the torn muscle. What is evident in the shoulder examination of the patient who applied for the treatment of recurrent anterior dislocation is that when the shoulder is supported from the front, the shoulder is moved in the direction of the dislocation and the patient's uneasiness is observed.
Teşhis
At the time of shoulder dislocation, an x-ray should be taken first for a complete diagnosis. If overlapping images and additional fractures are suspected, it may be necessary to request computerized tomography. In patients with old dislocations, magnetic resonance imaging is required to diagnose cartilage and bone damage, muscle and tendon tears.
Tedavi
Most of the time, there is no fracture, the dislocation is replaced by the orthopedist and the patient is relieved. The patient is followed with an arm sling for 15 days for the tissues to heal. If necessary, physical therapy can be started after 15 days. Recurrent dislocations may cause loss of cartilage or bones in the shoulder joint. The patient may need surgery as the cartilage tear grows larger after each dislocation and becomes more difficult to repair. Arthroscopic surgery is preferred for dislocation surgeries.
