FLAT FOOT AND INWARD STEPPING

FLAT FOOT AND INWARD STEPPING

Flat feet is a condition in which the long arch of the foot collapses, meaning that the width of the sole of the foot on the ground increases. Flat feet, which can be divided into physiological and pathological, is one of the issues that families are worried about, especially in childhood. Approximately fifteen percent of adults have physiological, that is, normal flat feet. In physiological flat feet, which are inherited in families, foot mechanics are impaired, but the patient may not have any complaints. In pathological flatfoot problems, the foot is hard and does not return to its normal arch. It can be seen in Achilles tendon shortening, bone adhesions, some neurological diseases and heel bone structural disorders.

Complaint
In general, there are no complaints, but early fatigue, foot pain, leg pain, knee pain and pain while doing sports may occur, especially during long walks. Deformation may occur in shoes.
Examination
Feet must be bare during the examination. The patient is pressed onto a hard surface and the pressing of both feet is observed. If there is instep, the formation of an arch inside the foot when the big toe is lifted towards the back of the foot indicates that flat feet are physiological flat feet. The foot can also be observed by releasing it in the air and the foot can take its normal curve. In pathological flat feet, the inner arch of the foot does not form and there is a hard sole structure.
Diagnosis
Additional tests may sometimes be required after the examination. If there is pathological flat foot, x-ray and podogram, which helps to show the footprint using various methods, should be performed. If there are other additional diseases, tests can be performed for them. Imaging of bone adhesions is performed by computerized tomography method.
Treatment
Physiological flat feet with no complaints do not need any treatment. If there is pain, early fatigue, leg and waist complaints, treatment is required even if the flat feet are physiological. Treatment of pathological flat feet varies depending on the disease.
For those with physiological complaints and flat feet, insoles suitable for the foot shape should be used. Sole shape measurements are taken, sole shape is determined with special tests and suitable insoles are manufactured. As long as the complaint continues, insoles should be renewed every year.
