FOOT TENDONS INFLAMMATION

FOOT TENDONS INFLAMMATION

Tendons, which are extensions of muscles adhering to the bone, travel within special sheaths and enable the ankle and foot to gain movement. Tendons may become inflamed after strains, direct and indirect traumas, excess weight and structural disorders of the foot. Along with edema and swelling, tendonitis occurs. Foot tendon inflammations can be seen around the ankle, on the back of the foot and on the sole of the foot.

Complaint
Ankle and foot pain, ankle and foot swelling, and difficulties in walking and doing sports may occur. Pain, which can be felt even at rest, can become burning and challenging.
Examination
The beginning of the complaint and how it started are questioned. The ankle and foot are observed, then the site of pain is localized. There may be swelling and pain over the tendon. The presence of different foot problems other than tendon inflammation should be evaluated. Flat feet, high arch of the sole, bony deformities, finger curvatures and deformities may accompany tendon inflammations.
Diagnosis
For diagnosis, the presence of trauma should be questioned. After the examination, the bone structure is evaluated by requesting an x-ray. Definitive diagnosis is made with magnetic resonance.
Treatment
In cases of tendinitis, the primary treatment is rest. The body must be given the opportunity to heal itself. Apart from inpatient rest, cold application and anti-inflammatory treatments, treatment can be supported with prostheses, ankle braces or plaster casts. In order for the disease to not recur, the cause that started the disease must first be found. If the cause of tendonitis is in-toeing, treatment can be started with the use of insoles. In recurrent cases, physical therapy and local injections can be applied.
